A few years after Dawson was born, his mother Dorothy West fled, never to be heard from or seen again, leaving Cain West to raise Dawson by himself. When Dawson was two years old, Cain began pursuing a goal of his: running a newspaper outlet.</p>

</p>In 1893, when Dawson was 17 years old, he was in Georgia with his father in the relatively small yet sizable town of Albany. Dawson saw local deputies outside of a local business and saw a shootout break out between outlaws and deputies. As the scene developed into a mess, Dawson sat in excitement down the street and watched as it unfolded. After the incident Dawson had the opportunity to visit the site, take notes, and speak with a deputy, and he thought it would be a fantastic story to tell back in Tallahassee.</p>

Almost 4 years later being in Monroe at 23 Dawson West currently resides as a Deputy Marshal for the West Elizabeth/New Austin area.</p>
